The Central Electricity Board (CEB) is a parastatal body wholly owned by the Government of Mauritius and reporting to the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities. Established in 1952 and empowered by Central Electricity Board Act of January 1964, the CEB’s business is to “prepare and carry out development schemes with the general object of promoting, coordinating and improving the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity in Mauritius”.
In 2022, the CEB produced approximately 3,119.2 GWh of energy. Of this, 80.8% (2,520.8 GWh) was generated from non-renewable sources, while 19.2% (598.4 GWh) came from renewable sources. This blend of energy production underscores the CEB’s commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio and incorporating sustainable practices.
